BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (AP) _ Barnes & Noble Education Inc. (BNED) on Tuesday reported a loss of $44.4 million in its fiscal fourth quarter.

The Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 86 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 64 cents per share.

The operator of book stores on college campuses posted revenue of $222.8 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $131.8 million, or $2.65 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.43 billion.

Barnes & Noble Education shares have risen 86% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $8.67, increasing fivefold in the last 12 months.
