Berjaya Media Berhad announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended October 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of MYR 12,099,000 against MYR 11,805,000 a year ago. Profit from operations was MYR 87,000 against loss from operations of MYR 507,000 a year ago. Loss before tax was MYR 482,000 against profit before tax of MYR 71,000 a year ago. Loss after tax attributable to equity holders of the company was MYR 497,000 against profit after tax attributable to equity holders of the company of MYR 54,000 a year ago. Basic loss per share was 0.21 sen against basic earnings per share of 0.02 sen a year ago. The increase in revenue for the quarter under review was mainly due to higher advertising income recorded by its principal operating subsidiary, Sun Media Corporation Sdn Bhd (SunMedia). The incurrence of pre-tax loss was mainly due to the provision for impairment loss on the quoted investments. For the six months, the company reported revenue of MYR 22,958,000 against MYR 23,846,000 a year ago. Loss from operations was MYR 1,002,000 against loss from operations of MYR 563,000 a year ago. Loss before tax was MYR 2,853,000 against loss before tax of MYR 917,000 a year ago. Loss after tax attributable to equity holders of the company was MYR 2,615,000 against loss after tax attributable to equity holders of the company of MYR 951,000 a year ago. Basic loss per share was 1.11 sen against basic loss per share of 0.40 sen a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities was MYR 3,028,000 against net cash generated from operating activities of MYR 1,204,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was MYR 175,000 against MYR 309,000 a year ago. The drop in revenue for the current period under review was mainly due to lower advertising income recorded by Sun Media. The pre-tax loss registered for the period under review was mainly due to lower revenue and the provision for impairment loss on the quoted investments.
