Promoting Indigenous culture and building Indigenous cultural awareness within our workforce are critical to enable BHP to establish Indigenous relationships based on trust and respect.

BHP's Jansen Potash Project in Saskatchewan Canada has been running mandatory Aboriginal Awareness training for all employees since 2012, helping to build respect and integrity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

The training program teaches the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, addresses stereotypes, seeks to remove bias, and improves employee knowledge and understanding when engaging with Indigenous people or businesses.

BHP has developed improved initiatives and approaches through the program that have helped create positive outcomes in our relationships with First Nations and Métis people. The program has also encouraged improved practices across the industry and for government in the region.
