CHICO, Calif. - California Water Service (Cal Water) has begun a water infrastructure upgrade on Chico's southwest side that will strengthen water system reliability and infrastructure resiliency for customers' everyday needs and firefighters' emergency needs.
The project, which started this week and is expected to be completed in December, includes the construction of a new well and installation of new piping and electrical infrastructure at the utility's station on Olive Street, near East 5th Street. Crews will also install new wrought iron fencing, landscaping, and sidewalks to enhance neighborhood appeal.
'The new and improved station will enable us to provide a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to residents and businesses every day for generations to come, as well as sufficient resources for firefighters to protect our community in emergencies,' said District Manager George Barber. 'As essential service workers, our crews are working hard daily to keep delivering quality, service, and value to our Chico customers.'
Work will be performed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction.
Cal Water serves about 107,500 people through 30,500 service connections in Chico and Hamilton City. Company-wide, Cal Water serves about 2 million people through 489,600 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1926.
