The Board of Directors of Challenger Exploration Limited provided an operational update on the Company's Hualilan Gold Project in Argentina and El Guayabo Gold/Copper Project in Ecuador. Challenger is in a strong financial position with cash at bank as at March 31 of $6.1m. The Board has undertaken a full strategic review of the previously announced 2020 exploration program in light of global economic and market conditions. ARGENTINA - HUALILAN GOLD PROJECT: The Government of Argentina has announced it will extend national mandatory quarantine until 13 April 2020. This week National Government declared mining as an essential service. Mining companies will have to take extra measures and roster must be 14x14. CEL has been advised by the San Juan Mining Minister that it should receive special clearance to restart all operations at Hualilan this week. CEL's drilling contractor has indicated it can restart drilling 24 hours after clearance is received. Before the government lockdown necessitated a suspension of field activities, CEL completed the first 16 diamond core holes for 2,115 metres in its CY 2020 drilling program at Hualilan. CEL has been advised by ALS Labs, Mendoza, that processing of samples from two holes has been completed with pulps awaiting transport to Lima for final assays once transport restrictions are lifted (currently expected April 13). ALS has also confirmed that preparation of samples from the next four holes can be fast tracked immediately. The lead time from transport of pulps to Peru to final assay is anticipated to be 7-14 days. ECUADOR - COLORADO V GOLD/COPPER PROJECT: Detailed logging and sampling of 56 historical drill holes from Colorado V continued up until April 1, when the decision was made to suspend field activities. This core had not been previously logged by geologists with porphyry experience and limited sections of this core had previously been assayed for gold only. Logging is now complete for 19 of 56 of the historical Colorado V core holes. 22 of 56 holes, totaling 9,000 metres, of the 22,000 metres of the available core, has been transported to the El Guayabo core shed for logging and sampling. CEL has been advised by SGS Labs Quito that pulps for the first two holes (1,000 metres in total) have arrived in Peru for final assaying with pulps for the third hole (400 metres) awaiting shipment to Peru. The lead time for assays once restrictions in Peru are lifted (currently expected April 13) is expected to be 7-14 days. Sampling of two additional holes was near complete on April 1 with approximately 1 week required following the resumption of field work prior to submission of holes 5 and 6 for assaying.
