Whilst our focus is on improving safety practices and making workplaces safer for all employees, sometimes injuries occur. When they do, it's reassuring to know that Chandler Macleod's Injury Management team have effective Rehabilitation and Return to Work strategies in place to rehabilitate injured employees.

The Brisbane and Mt Gravatt offices recently joined together to help Justin (an employee injured at a client site) with his rehabilitation and return to work. As a result they made a difference in Justin's long road to recovery, and his future career choices.

"Making a difference in people's lives and future prospects is why we do what we do every day", said Tania Sinibaldi when she heard Justin's story.

Justin suffered a workplace injury while working back in March, when his right ankle was struck by a moving part of a chicken catching machine and he sustained a serious fracture that required surgery. After six weeks off work, it was time for Justin to commence light duties. Returning to work for light duties was not an option as Justin was unable to walk on uneven ground - something that can't be avoided on a farm.

Chandler Macleod organised public transport to the Queen Street office and Justin commenced his first role in an office environment. Understandably, Justin was outside his comfort zone but under the care of Nicola Flannery and Jessamine Schultz his confidence grew and he was motivated to learn as much as he could. He started beating them to work each morning, took pride in the way he dressed, developed computer based skills, attended office training and became a part of the team. Each week Justin sat with a different area, so it was a case of the entire office taking him under their wing supporting him in his recovery.

Despite a few set backs, in early September, Justin was strong enough to attempt working all day on his feet and commenced physical work closer to home to 'test' his ankle.
