OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Continental Resources Inc. (CLR) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $597.8 million.

On a per-share basis, the Oklahoma City-based company said it had net income of $1.65. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $2.65 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.41 per share.

The independent oil and gas company posted revenue of $1.82 billion in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.16 billion.
