Basic Agreement for Business Alliance Concluded with DATAFLUCT, Inc. for Cooperative Development of Credit Card Business with Carbon Neutrality

Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Representative, Executive President and

COO: Katsumi Mizuno; hereinafter "Credit Saison") has concluded a basic agreement for a

business alliance with DATAFLUCT, Inc. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hayato Kumemura; hereinafter "DATAFLUCT"), a company which uses data science to solve corporate and social problems. Moving forward, the two companies will begin considerations for service development, such as combining their expertise to develop credit card business with a carbon neutral approach.

■ Background

Amidst reports of damage caused by abnormal weather around the world, the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released in August 2021 clearly stated for the first time that there is no doubt that human activities are causing global warming. In Japan, there is a growing movement towards carbon neutrality in corporate and economic activities, with the development of laws and regulations to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition, the environmental awareness of individuals, especially the younger generation, is steadily increasing, and carbon neutrality is an important theme for both companies and individuals.

With its management philosophy as a leading-edge service company, Credit Saison contributes to social development and problem-solving in ways no other company can by leveraging its distinctive expertise, management resources, and the experience of each individual employee in its day-to-day operations, striving to create a richer and more convenient sustainable society for the future. Credit Saison's environmental initiatives include the management of Akagi Nature Park, use of materials with consideration for the environment, and the promotion of paperless operations, among other.

The basic agreement for business alliance concluded this time was achieved based on a shared vision of the two companies, striving to achieve co-creation of a sustainable society moving toward carbon neutrality by 2050. Moving forward, DATAFLUCT will contribute through its cutting-edge technology, expertise, and other resources related to fields such as AI, as well as the technology, expertise, and other management resources related to CO2 emission visualization posssessed by its affiliate in Sweden, the impact technology company Dokonomy (Head Office: Stockholm, Sweden; CEO: Mathias Wikström), and Credit Saison will contribute through its wide-ranging technology, expertise, and other management resources related to payment business. Through the joint application of these combined assets, the companies will contribute to promotion of carbon neutrality in Japan and the world as a whole.

■ Details of the basic agreement for the business alliance

By utilizing the CO2 emission visualization technology "Åland Index" provided by Doconomy, we will develop and consider providing credit card and web application services that enable the visualization of CO2 emissions linked to payment data and carbon offsetting.
