On the 1st, Daewoo Engineering & Construction (CEO Baek Jeong-wan) participated in the 3.1 Run event hosted by Habitat Korea to remember and express gratitude for the sacrifice and dedication of independence fighters, and donated KRW 200 million to support the construction of houses for descendants of independence fighters in 2024.

It was announced on the 4th that it was sponsored.

Since 2021, Daewoo Engineering & Construction has been working with Habitat Korea to repair a total of 21 houses for descendants of independence fighters to provide a healthy and comfortable environment for them and improve their quality of life. Based on the results of these projects, starting this year, we will not stop at just repairing some interiors and facilities, but will also demolish the old house and build a new home.

The beneficiary of the 2024 project was selected as Bae Young-gyu, the grandson of independence activist Bae Yong-seok. On March 12, 1919, martyr Bae Yong-seok participated in the independence movement in Ssanggye-dong, Bian-myeon, led by Park Yeong-hwa, pastor of Ssanggye Church, and others. After being imprisoned for violating the so-called National Security Act at the Daegu Review Court on May 15, 1919, he was commended as a person of national independence merit in December 1986.

The beneficiary's home located in Daegu has a bathroom exposed to the outside, so only simple washing of face and no shower is possible. The building was completed in 1985 and is overall deteriorated, so it was selected as the target household for this project to build houses for descendants of independence activists. Daewoo E&C plans to carry out interior construction, including foundation construction and frame construction, and executives and employees plan to directly participate in volunteer activities in the future.

Meanwhile, Habitat Korea has been holding 3.1 runs and 815 runs every year, starting with the 815 Run Marathon event in 2020. 50 executives and employees of Daewoo Engineering & Construction who applied in advance participated in the 3.1 Run with their families and had a meaningful time at the Peace Square at Sangam World Cup Park. Singer Sean, the promotional ambassador for this campaign, also attended to add meaning, and Daewoo E&C's marathon club 'Daewoo Runners' also participated to make the event shine.

Manager Ko Seok-hyeon of Daewoo Engineering & Construction, who participated in the event, said, 'I came out with the idea that as a person of national merit, I should work together for independence fighters,' and Deputy Manager Lee Jun-seong also said, 'I hope that the company will be able to leave good memories with their families by organizing a meaningful event on the important March 1st.' 'I think so,' he said.

A Daewoo Engineering & Construction representative said, 'I think it is very meaningful that the project that has been carried out with Habitat Korea for the past three years since 2021 to improve the residential environment of descendants of independence fighters has advanced to the next level, and the scope of support has been greatly expanded this year.' He added, 'We will continue to do so in the future.' 'We will strive to ensure that more descendants of independence fighters benefit and improve their quality of life through comfortable housing,' he said.
