SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Design Within Reach (Nasdaq: DWRI) is launching a multi-faceted effort to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. Throughout the fall, DWR will hold fundraising events; sponsor teams in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure walks; and auction off exclusive furniture pieces donated by Knoll, Herman Miller, Emeco, Fritz Hansen and Spinneybeck. The proceeds from DWR's efforts will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure -- the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

Ray Brunner, CEO of Design Within Reach, is leading the company's efforts. "DWR raised $30,000 for the Komen foundation in 2007. With the help of our valued manufacturing partners and our dedicated employees, we aim to triple that number in 2008. The DWR community, like many others, has been personally touched by the devastating effects of this disease. This is our chance to fight back."

Design Within Reach has kicked off fundraising efforts by committing to donate 5 percent of proceeds from their recent four-day San Francisco Warehouse Sale, which drew crowds from up and down the West Coast.

Design Within Reach employees across the United States will be involved as DWR will sponsor regional Race for the Cure teams in San Francisco; New York; Boston; Honolulu; New Orleans; Portland, Oregon; Newport Beach, California; Charlotte, North Carolina; Columbus, Ohio; Houston, Dallas and Austin in Texas; Princeton, New Jersey; Scottsdale, Arizona and Southern Florida. Team DWR kicks off their events for 2008 in Boston on Sunday, September 7, and will conclude in Austin, Texas, on Sunday November 2. Supporters of Design Within Reach are invited to join Team DWR by walking or making a donation.

DWR has been joined in the fight against breast cancer by five manufacturers, who have donated exclusive pieces to be auctioned online, with 100 percent of proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The five iconic items to be auctioned are the Saarinen Tulip Stool with pink leather seat and a pink leather Wassily Chair, both from Knoll; the Eames Aluminum Management Chair in pink leather from Herman Miller; the Heritage Rocker from Emeco, powder-coated in white with a pink leather seat; and a pink wool Swan Chair from Fritz Hansen. All leather was donated by Spinneybeck. The DWR eBay Giving Works auctions will be live on September 22 and will close October 3.
