ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) _ Dish Network Corp. (DISH) on Thursday reported first-quarter profit of $630.2 million.

On a per-share basis, the Englewood, Colorado-based company said it had net income of 99 cents.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 83 cents per share.

The satellite television provider posted revenue of $4.5 billion in the period, which missed Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.52 billion.

Dish shares have increased 29% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 70% in the last 12 months.
