EcoRodovias discloses sustainability goals for 2030 in its integrated report

The company's strategic goals encompass increasing representation of women and black people in leadership roles and reducing CO2 emissions by 42%. The 50% reduction in number of deaths is in line with UN goal

EcoRodovias published today its 2023 Integrated Report, which describes, for the first time, its sustainability goals to be achieved by 2030. The company undertakes to accomplish the goals outlined across a total of 10 sustainability pillars, referred to as Sustainability Paths. Each path has defined goals, which include a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions resulting from the company's activities and associated with its energy consumptions (scopes 1 and 2). Regrading indirect emissions (scope 3), that occur across the production chain, the objective is to reduce them by 11% by 2030. "Sustainability has always been important for EcoRodovias - so much so that the company has been listed in the B3's Corporate Sustainability Index for 13 years. Now, we believe that the group is sufficiently mature in the subject to publish more concrete goals. Additionally, we have already been conducting projects that yield significant results," stated Monica Jaen, sustainability officer at EcoRodovias. EcoRodovias upholds sustainability goals, such as reducing energy consumption, which is linked to the variable compensation of all employees, including senior management.

Climate Change

Regarding greenhouse gas emissions, the company describes some initiatives already in progress, including the high speed weigh-in-motion system (HS-WIM), the utilization of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), and the establishment of photovoltaic plants to provide energy for highway operations. EcoRodovias' climate strategy also envisaged the goal of installing 112 electric vehicle charging stations on highways by 2026, in order to contribute to decarbonization of vehicles utilizing these routes, and developing a plan to adapt operations to climate change. "The demand for less carbon-intensive business models is global and we will play a leading role in the highway infrastructure sector," said Monica. She also remembers that the RAP is one of the initiatives in line with the goal of reusing or recycling 95% of waste by 2030, strengthening circular economy.

DE&I

Another goal refers to gender equality. Currently, the company's leadership comprises 30% women and 24% black people. The company has been adopting programs for career advancement, mentoring and training with the aim of achieving 50% representation of women and 35% representation of black people in leadership positions by 2030. Since 2018, EcoRodovias maintains the "Caminho para Todos" Program to build a diverse, equal and inclusive workplace with training for employees mainly on gender, LGBQIAP+, PwDs and race. The company is also listed in B3's IDIVERSA, due to its remarkable initiatives in gender and race diversity.

The training and development agenda, for employees and suppliers, should also reach the goals by 2030, especially regarding respect to ethics and human rights. "Strengthening our sustainability-oriented culture, with the involvement of our employees and suppliers, is essential to attain our 2030 Agenda goals," said the officer. Also in line with human capital commitment, the reduction in nonfatal injuries among employees should be reduced by 50% by 2030. Innovation

Strengthening the culture of innovation to add value to the company and enable a competitive advantage is part of our 2030 Agenda. To assess our progress on this issue, the company has set a goal to achieve 70% favorability in the innovation leadership survey by 2030. "Through the implementation of new technologies, we expect to improve further efficiency in projects focused on sustainability, road safety, and engineering solutions, for example. But we know that we depend on the engagement of our leadership, so it will be essential to monitor this goal," explained Monica. The main projects of EcoRodovias to achieve its Agenda 2030 goals are being driven by the company's culture of innovation.

2023 Results

In addition to sustainability aspects, the report presents EcoRodovias's results in 2023, a year in which the company reached an unprecedented operational and financial level with an Adjusted EBITDA of R$3.9 billion, an increase of almost 70% compared to the previous year, and achieved a recurring net income of R$777 million. "We are showing the market that it is feasible to deliver excellent financial returns while making substantial investments in infrastructure and contributing to the economic and social development of the country without compromising on ethical and sustainable practices in our business," said Marcello Guidotti, CEO of EcoRodovias. During the same period, the company's investments totaled R$4.2 billion, and over the last six years, it is nearly R$15 billion, improving the safety of our users and traffic flow.
