Edisun Power Europe AG announced that the 49 MW photovoltaic project in north-east Portugal bought in June 2019 received a building permit from the relevant authorities at the end of November 2019. Construction work started on December 6. Connection to the grid is planned for the second half of 2020. The 49 MW PV facility now under construction will generate power without government subsidies or feed-in tariffs. The electricity will be sold on the market; production costs are very attractive compared to current electricity prices. A power purchase agreement (PPA) with fixed-price purchase commitments has been signed to guarantee income for the first years of operation. The plant occupies a site of around 65 hectares in the Mogadouro region of north-east Portugal and will generate 80 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, sufficient to supply the needs of a city of about 20'000 people for a year.
