A remarkable West Flemish alliance in faraway Asia: the water technology company Ekopak (Tielt) is going to cooperate with energy specialist Vyncke (Harelbeke) to set up a water services company. This will focus on water reuse projects in Southeast Asia and India.

The gist: WaaS (Water-as-a-Service) Asia is a joint venture between Ekopak, Vyncke and Finnish entrepreneur Saku Rantanen. "Asia, with its diverse weather conditions and large population, faces recurring water scarcity and drought challenges. WaaS Asia aims to address this problem and provide an innovative solution in the field of water reuse," said Ekopak, the publicly traded company of CEO Pieter Loose.

More details:

  • WaaS is a water management service from Ekopak that helps companies produce, treat and recycle water. Ekopak, which has Marc Coucke (Alychlo) as a major shareholder, designs and builds the plant and ensures that water is always available.
  • "The WaaS business model is proving to be a success. The time is ripe to expand this model to Asia as well. By working with Vyncke and Mr. Rantanen, we can combine our technological solutions with their experience in the Asian market."
  • WaaS Asia will operate from its headquarters in Singapore, also the base of operations of Peter Vyncke of the eponymous manufacturer of industrial power plants that run on biomass or waste. "After renewable energy, renewable water is now the next challenge for the Vynckeniers," he says. The family-owned company has been operating in Asia for more than 40 years.
  • Rantanen will be the CEO of WaaS Asia.
