(Alliance News) - ENAV Spa announced Thursday that AMAN - Arrival Manager -, a technological tool for more efficient management of arriving flights at Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio airports, has gone into operation.

The support is operational in the Milan Area Control Center, which is responsible for the airspace of Northwest Italy, for both the enroute and airport approach phases.

Enav has estimated, for Malpensa airport alone, an average reduction of 30 seconds per single flight, or about 4.8 kilometers shorter distance resulting in fuel savings of 30 kilograms, corresponding to about 93 kilograms of CO2 .

Specifically, AMAN is a system that supports air traffic controllers in managing flights during the approach phase to the arrival airport, from when the aircraft is close to leaving cruise altitude to begin its descent until it aligns with the runway. In fact, this innovative system is able to assist the air traffic controller in defining the optimal arrival sequence for each aircraft, reducing flight time and thus allowing aircraft approaching airports to consume less fuel.

The Arrival Manager, as of Dec. 23, 2022, is already operational at ENAV's Rome Control Center for the approach phase to Fiumicino Airport and has so far ensured an overall reduction of more than 360,000 kilograms of fuel for a lower CO2 emission of about 1 million kilograms.

ENAV closed Thursday up 1.0 percent to EUR3.45 per share.
