Verdun Oil Company II LLC agreed to acquire EP Energy Corporation for $1.4 billion on July 26, 2021. The transaction is subject to FTC approval. As of March 25, 202, the Federal Trade Commission announced that it will require the divestiture of EP Energy Corp.'s entire business and assets in Utah to resolve the agency's allegations that the transaction would eliminate competition.

The FTC ultimately granted conditional clearance of the transaction, with the purchaser agreeing to divest a portion of EP Energy's assets post-closing.
