China Unicom and Huawei Win the GSMA GLOMO Award for 5G Live Streaming Service

[Barcelona, Spain, March 1, 2024] At MWC Barcelona 2024, the 5G live streaming service jointly launched in Guangdong by China Unicom and Huawei won the GSMA GLOMO 'Best Mobile Operator Service for Connected Consumers' award. This prestigious award is given to the operator service or solution that delivers the best access to mobile users. China Unicom Guangdong took the lead in launching the 5G live streaming service. The service was designed to fulfill users' ultra-high uplink bandwidth requirements. They allow users to enjoy HD and uninterrupted live streaming experience, and set an example for other global operators looking to monetize 5G uplink bandwidth.

China Unicom and Huawei win the GSMA GLOMO 'Best Mobile Operator Service for Connected Consumers' award for 5G live streaming service
There are nearly 140 million registered live streaming accounts in China. In 2023, live commerce in China generated about US$700 billion in revenue, and this accounted for 27% of the country's online retail sales revenue. In recent years, more and more subdivided scenes such as tourism, agricultural product sales, and marine fisheries are broadcast live, and traditional mobile service have not been able to deliver the stable and ultra-high uplink speeds and bandwidth that users require. To address this issue, China Unicom Guangdong created the innovative 5G live streaming service.
To offer the best possible live streaming experience, China Unicom Guangdong worked with Huawei to leverage network data dnalytics function and slicing technology, in order to provide ultra-high uplink speeds of 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps and exceptional services for VVIP users. The Huawei SmartCare@ provides differentiated experience assurance services for video services. It also profiles live streaming users using converged data platform to identify potential customers in seconds, and this enables real-time marketing by China Unicom Guangdong.
