Freelancer Limited announced it has won three task orders with two US Government Departments - the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology and NASA. The task orders were won under the USD 175 million NASA Open Innovation Services 2 (NOIS2) joint tender that allows NASA and other government agencies to host crowdsourcing activities and reach millions of innovators worldwide. The first task order for the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is the largest task order won to date, worth USD 1,500,000.

It aims to advance incident command dashboard technologies that would allow for real-time tracking of assets, personnel, and objects of interest during emergency crisis scenarios. This task order will be delivered in partnership with LMI, a US government-focused consultancy with nearly 60 years of experience in delivering computational science solutions. Freelancer will execute a four-phased challenge to source innovative solutions for NIST.

The challenge will culminate in a final phase where participants will be able to showcase their solutions in a university building using live data. Freelancer will be there to organise and coordinate the incident command scenario. The second task order for NASA is worth US$9,300 and will leverage the Freelancer crowd with exceptional transcription skills to transcribe a series of interviews for the NASA Convergent Aeronautics Solutions (CAS) project.

The third task order for NASA, worth US$37,000, will leverage the Freelancer crowd to provide graphic design expertise to the NASA CAS team. The team's goal is to drive a more effective collaboration process for early problem identification, exploration, and high-level solution conceptualization. By improving collaboration, the NASA CAS team will be able to develop more accurate and insightful work products with the addition of user-centered design, and graphic illustration and facilitation support.
