GAUSSIN a finalist in the "Leader" category in the global competition organised by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority for self-driving passenger transport

GAUSSIN Manugistique (EURONEXT GROWTH FR0010342329) has announced that it has been shortlisted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) as a finalist in the Dubai World Challenge forSelf-DrivingTransport, a global competition forself-drivingpassenger transport. The final phase of the competition will take place in September 2019 in Dubai, and the winner will be awarded the exclusive right to operate in Dubai as well as a US $3 million prize.

Development of smart cities

For several years now we have seen strong growth in the number of smart city projects, which are the future of urban development and now the focus of most of the innovation in mobility. Indeed, mobility as we know it is about facilitating people's movements and a decisive factor in what makes a city livable.

Urbanisation is expected to accelerate over the next decade with the urban population expected to reach 70% of the world's total population by 2050. Given the speed of this growth, it is necessary to start introducing innovative solutions as of now.

Today's cities are faced with some major challenges that come with developing mobility, such as pollution, safety, congestion and accessibility.

Population growth will lead to more traffic jams, longer journey times, higher transport costs and more pollution.

The concept of the traditional city will have to be abandoned in favour of a smart city where the considerations of connectivity and mobility predominate. Self-driving vehicles set to be a key factor in achieving this transition.

Recent reports have shown that self-driving technologies have the capacity to reduce urban journey times by a third and greenhouse gas emissions by two thirds. As for parking, 40% fewer spaces would be needed.

Gaussin a finalist in a field of 65 participants in the World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport

TheDubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport is a catalyst to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum: 25% of all trips in Dubai to be smart and driverless by 2030.

First/last-mile connection will be the first use case addressed. The application and evaluation process started in 2018 and will run through to the World Congress and Challenge for Self-Driving Transport to be held in Dubai on 15 and 16 October 2019.

Hosted by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, this multi-year international challenge is designed for industry leaders, start-ups and universities tackling the transport challenges faced by global cities. It is the most prestigious competition of its kind, truly global in its outlook, not being limited by country or region.

The first use case addressed is first and last mile solutions to support transport networks, from parking lots to venues and within communities, to connect origins/destinations to public transport, off-site parking lots to venue entrances and transport people around a certain location.
