Assicurazioni Generali SpA said late Wednesday that the Italian market watchdog set a price for the country's largest insurer to buy remaining shares it doesn't yet own in takeover target Cattolica Assicurazioni SC.

The regulator, Consob, set the purchase price at 6.75 euros ($6.87) a share, the same price as Generali's bid offer, which launched last year.

The maximum amount Generali would pay should all remaining shares of Cattolica be tendered is EUR84.7 million, the Trieste-based insurer said.
