Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (BIT:G) doesn't have an "obsession" with M&A and will consider it only if it creates value for all shareholders, said CEO Philippe Donnet during a press conference on 2023 results. "In recent years we have been among the most active in the sector with acquisitions of EUR 7 billion," said Donnet. "We have always done them within a rigorous and disciplined framework, which was in the strategy presented at the beginning of the plan, and we will continue to do them in the same way.

If the transactions have an important potential to create value for all stakeholders and a strategic and cultural fit, then we can consider them, with the discipline shown in recent years," he said. The Generali CEO declined to comment on various rumors that have emerged in recent weeks regarding M&A. Donnet noted that the shareholders meeting will be asked to approve a "very important" EUR 500 million share buyback plan, for which the budget of its strategic plan not spent for extraordinary transactions will be used.
