Generali Real Estate acquires "Lindencorso" prime asset in Berlin

Cologne - The German branch of Generali Real Estate (GRE-DE) based in Cologne acquired for a German "Spezialfonds" managed by Gentum KAG the prime office and retail building "Lindencorso", located at the distinctive intersection of Friedrichstraße / Unter den Linden in the much sought after "Mitte" submarket of Berlin. The asset has been acquired on behalf of the Generali Deutschland Group.

Lindencorso is one of Berlin's landmark buildings offering a NLA of 28,700 sqm. Its main tenant is the Volkswagen AG, having situated its Automobil Forum and local Berlin offices within the building since 1998. The representative showrooms of Volkswagen are receiving 1.3 mln visitors each year. As an additional distinctive feature, the building offers continuous office space of 3,000 sqm per floor.

Lindencorso has been constructed according to the plans of the renowned architect Professor Christoph Mäckler from 1994 - 1997. The representative office and retail building is being regarded as a perfect example of the historic inner city reconstruction of the 1990s. The limestone facade of the 8 story high building was built using traditional brick laying techniques. Lindencorso is one of the few commercial buildings in Germany not using modern curtain-wall elements.

"This acquisition is a perfect example and continuation of the current strategy of Generali Real Estate, focusing on high quality real estate in prime locations", says Martin Schramm, Head of the German branch of Generali Real Estate.

Generali Real Estate has been advised by CBRE and retained Pöllath + Partner as its legal counsel.
