Madrid, March 13, 2024.- The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, and the CEO of Grenergy, David Ruiz de Andrés, have inaugurated the Gran Teno photovoltaic plant, located in the Maule Region (Chile). With a capacity of 241MWp, it is the largest installation of its kind in the south of the country and the company worldwide.

Thanks to this plant, more than 136,000 homes will receive green energy, which, in turn, will reduce the emission of more than 147,000 tons of CO2 per year. Grenergy is an ally in the decarbonization of the energy system for a green and sustainable future.

"This milestone is yet another example of our firm commitment to Chile. We have already invested more than US$700 million in the country, to which another US$1.4 billion will be added for the development of Oasis de Atacama. It is the largest battery in the world and will provide 4.1 GWh of green energy storage to transform the world and promote sustainable development," said Grenergy's CEO, David Ruiz de Andrés.

Multi-Million Dollar Investments

With its commissioning, Gran Teno will thus join the more than 80 plants that Grenergy has already connected in Chile. The company has invested more than US$700 million in the country, a figure that is expected to increase by an additional US$1.4 billion in the development of Oasis de Atacama. The initiative is the largest renewable project in Latin America during the years 2024 and 2025, a period in which most of this investment will be executed.

Oasis de Atacama, which has a capacity of 4.1GWh and about 1GW of solar, is divided into five phases. Currently under construction, the Quillagua connection (phase 1) is scheduled to take place by the end of this year, while the next three phases will take place during 2025. Once operational, more than 145,000 homes will receive clean energy from the facility, which will also prevent the emission of nearly 147,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
