Corporation( NSDC) and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT),
Canada on Skill Development in the Hydrocarbon Industry

An MoU on Skill Development in the Hydrocarbon Sector was signed by Mr. Dilip H. M. Chenoy, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Mr Rod Miller, Associate Vice President, Corporate Training Solutions, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in the presence of Hydrocarbon Sector delegation consisting of Mr L.N. Gupta, Secretary, Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB), Mr Biswajit Roy, Executive Director(HRD), IndianOil and Mr Shailesh Tiwari, Chief HRD Manager, IndianOil at Ottawa, Canada on 15th April 2015.


The MoU would aid developing expertise in areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning resources development, occupational standards, testing and certification, labour market information system (LMIS), etc. The MoU also provides technical expertise in setting Academies of Excellence (AoE) based on the extensive experience of the SAIT in the hydrocarbon recovery & production sector. SAIT is a global leader in applied education, renowned for its training expertise and industry-based applied research.


In line with the Vision of Government of India to skill 500 million people by 2022, NSDC has taken lead by setting up 31 Sector Skill Councils viz. Automotives, Apparels, Capital Goods, Iron & Steel, Hydrocarbon and Power, etc. The Hydrocarbon Sector Skill Council (HSSC) has an ambitious target of skilling approximately 2 million people in the next 10 years to meet the demand of Oil & Gas Industry in India and abroad. OIDB is the nodal agency, along with PetroFed for setting up of HSSC. IndianOil is leading the Industry Team in formulation of detailed framework for HSSC, including its Vision, Mission and identification of 134 job roles (trades) pertaining to Exploration & Production (Upstream), Midstream & Gas, Oil Refining & Marketing (Downstream) and Construction & Services.
