• It consists of more than 1,000 km of new lines that contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in the region.
  • These are two projects won in public bids that will enable the entry of clean energy into the system, benefiting more than nine million Peruvians.
  • With this award, ISA increases its leadership position in this country by reaching a national market share of 75%.

The Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) awarded ISA the construction, operation, and maintenance of two projects that will expand the energy transmission capacity in central and northern Peru. Both projects total more than 1,054 kilometers of 500 kV transmission lines and will benefit more than 2.9 million Peruvians.

Its execution will allow the entry of clean energy from the wind power projects located in Talara, Piura and Cajamarca, and the strengthening of the National Interconnected Electric System in the event of possible shortages due to emergencies. Both projects are expected to start operations in 2029 and generate revenues of approximately USD 83.5 million.

These new lines, which represent the largest energy transmission investment awarded by ProInversion (USD 833 million reference investment), are added to the eleven projects that ISA has been executing through its affiliates in Peru to leverage the country's development and progress.

This investment will be made in alliance with Grupo Energía Bogotá S.A. ESP (GEB), in accordance with the conditions established in the agreement signed on October 26, 2023, which establishes that ISA and GEB will jointly control the concession company. These conditions must be approved by the Peruvian regulatory authorities.

The importance of the project also lies in the fact that it allows ISA to consolidate its position as the largest transmitter of high voltage electricity with a market share of approximately 75% in Peru.

"We are very proud to have won these two projects which constitute the largest award so far made in the Peruvian Electricity sector. "Both projects will not only boost the development of the regions but are also decisive in advancing towards the decarbonization of the energy matrix, providing reliability and availability, and allowing the transfer of clean energy across the country," stated Juan Emilio Posada Echeverri, ISA CEO.

About the projects

These two projects that make up the bid are:

  1. Huanuco - Tocache - Celendin - Trujillo 500 kV connection: includes the construction of 662 kilometers of 500 kV line, as well as the construction of two new substations and the expansion of two existing substations, which will generate an annual revenue of approximately USD 44.1 million. Its execution will ensure the energy transmission from the central and northern areas of the country to cover the demand in the northern area of the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).
  2. Celendín - Piura 500kV connection: it includes an annual income of approximately USD 39.4 million and will generate multiple benefits since it will reinforce the energy transmission capacity to meet the demand at the northern area of the SEIN. Additionally, it will facilitate the exchange of energy with Ecuador when the commercial operation of the 500 kV electric interconnection with this country begins.
