JMP Group LLC announced that Elgin Thompson has joined JMP Securities as a managing director in its technology investment banking group. Based in the firm’s New York office, he will concentrate on the Internet, digital media, and software as a service. Prior to joining JMP Securities, he was a managing director at Digital Capital Advisors, an advisory boutique focused on emerging technology companies. He previously served as senior vice president of strategy and corporate development at GridNetworks, a venture-backed Internet infrastructure provider, where he was instrumental in negotiating the company’s sale. Earlier in his career, he was a senior member of the technology and media investment banking groups at Bear Stearns and Merrill Lynch and practiced mergers and acquisitions law with DLA Piper and Wildman Harold (now Lord & Locke). He holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, a JD from Temple University Beasley School of Law, and a BA from Northern Illinois University.
