Power generation has increased by 68.34% within a 24-hour period, while the inclement weather has led to a 94.55% increment in water capacity of tanks used for power generation, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said yesterday.

Accordingly, Castlereigh has increased by 92.7%, Mawussakale by 92.8%, Kotmale by 89.9%, Randenigala by 93.6%, and Samanala by 100%. Additionally, the power systems daily report for 22 December showed that hydropower generation accounted for 68.34% of total power generation in Sri Lanka, with thermal power dropping to 29.13%, solar power accounting for 0.38%, and wind power generating 1.5%.

The total power generation was recorded as 32.83 gigawatts.
