ANCHOR (OFF-CAMERA) ENGLISH SAYING:

Another interesting SmartEstimate has to do with LATAM Airlines Group. This one, too, taking it on the chin, it looks like.

SRI RAMAN, SR. RESEARCH ANALYST, THOMSON REUTERS STARMINE, (ENGLISH) SAYING:

It is. It's the biggest airline company in South America. It was formed by the merger of two - a Chilean company and a Brazilian company. Unfortunately, the synergies haven't worked out like the company expected. They're still struggling to get those operating efficiencies. Last quarter, the operating efficiency for the company was the lowest ever. So they're going to try and rectify that. They're lowering the number of flights they're offering, the capacity is lowered, hopefully increasing profits by increasing fares. But remember, there's still competition, so they just can't increase fares when they want. Right. So they have to deal with that. Unfortunately, right now, the SmartEstimate is below the consensus. They're likely to miss also this quarter.

Sri, what's going to happen now for these companies with the shutdown? I mean, we probably won't see anything reflected in this earnings period that we're just getting into here, but the next quarter, I would think we might.

SRI RAMAN, SR. RESEARCH ANALYST, THOMSON REUTERS STARMINE, (ENGLISH) SAYING:

Yes. And we'll start hearing companies lower guidance probably based on the shutdown. They're not going to be very excited about the following quarter. They're probably going to cite the shutdown, slowdown from consumers. Consumers are a large part of the economy. When you have a shutdown and the large part of people not working and not getting paid, they're not going to be spending as much. So those companies are going to report guidance tremendously lower and that's going to take estimates lower than what they are right now. So expect estimates to keep going down, and once again, as we've seen in the previous quarters, possibly the companies will beat them but they do want to lower expectations. So they're going to point to this shutdown as one of those reasons.
