The South Urals Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a Chelyabinsk-based regional civic organisation and employers' association, held a joint general meeting in Chelyabinsk on 22 September.

In addition to Union members - business leaders from the Southern Urals region - participants included the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Alexey Teksler; the President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), Alexander Shokhin; the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region, Oleg Gerber; members of the regional government; members of the regional parliament; the commissioner for the protection of the rights of business people in the Chelyabinsk region; and representatives of other business associations.

In his welcoming remarks, Governor Teksler noted the major contribution that members of the South Urals Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs had made to economic and social development in the Chelyabinsk region throughout the organisation's 30-year history. In his remarks, Mr Shokhin called the Chelyabinsk region's Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs one of the leading and largest business associations in Russia, noting that its members had successfully addressed issues of economic development, improved environmental safety and trained qualified personnel to work in industry.

The meeting also provided an overview of the results of the work of the civic organisation and employers' association over the previous four years. In addition, the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs approved the report of the audit commission and made additions and amendments to the organisations' charters. Moreover, the governing bodies of both structures were elected for the period up to 2028. Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, was re-elected President of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and provided a report on the main focus of the Union's activities for the next reporting period.

Following the meeting of the Union's Management Board, a press briefing was held where Mr Rashnikov, Mr Teksler and Mr Shokhin answered journalists' questions. Notably, Mr Rashnikov spoke about the implementation of MMK's largest investment projects, including coke plant No. 12, as well as the Attraction project, a unique urban park that is being developed in Magnitogorsk upon his personal initiative.
