MakoLab's COO and vice-president of the board, Piotr Adamkiewicz, has teamed up with Michał Hertel, Head of Communication and Marketing, to represent the company at an event being held as part of the Leeds Digital Festival. The organiser of the initiative is the Business Development and International Collaboration Office run by the Łódź city authority. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in London is the honorary patron of MakoLab's presence in Leeds
The Leeds Digital Festival is one of the largest tech events in the UK. Held annually, this year it runs from 20th to 30th September and boasts a very extensive programme. Where are we heading and why?
First and foremost, our presence in Leeds means playing an active part in the International FinTech Showcase, which is organised by FinTech North in partnership with Squire Patton Boggs and is happening today, 29th September. The agenda includes talks on support in doing business in the UK, best local practices and presentations given by companies taking part in the event. Some of those companies come from the North of England, while others represent Łódź. One of the aims is to find real fields of collaboration between Polish and British companies. Michał Hertel will be pitching for MakoLab and afterwards, our representatives will be making the most of this major opportunity for networking.
What is MakoLab aiming to achieve in Leeds?
MakoLab has been successfully carrying out advanced projects for financial institutions for years now, which means we have a great deal to offer the FinTech sector. Thanks to the active engagement of the Łódź city authorities, we've succeeded in building a local community that integrates technology companies interested in that field. In May this year, Łódź held its first FinTech & E-Commerce Linking Days conference, with administrative and technology company representatives from Leeds taking part. You could say that we're returning their visit in order to demonstrate the potential of companies from Łódź and continue the conversation we began back then. Leeds itself seems to be an interesting and dynamically growing place to do business. So we've also come here to check that out.

In addition, our 'to-do' list includes meetings with the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, a local government agency, and with representatives of NEXUS, which is part of the University of Leeds and brings the worlds of academia, technology and business together. Based in a state-of-the-art innovation hub on the university campus, its focus is on turning ideas into reality for practical use in business.
