Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions Ltd., Venti Japan Inc., C-Tech Corporation, and Mitsubishi Corporation, are pleased to announce that on December 24, 2021, a consortium represented by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions Ltd. received the notification from the government of Japan1 that the consortium members had been appointed as operators for the promotion-zone offshore wind power generation project off the coast of Yurihonjo City (northern side and southern side), Akita Prefecture. In accordance with Japanese legislation to promote the use of its marine areas for renewable power generation2, the project's objective is to encourage the development of such infrastructure off the coast of Yurihonjo City. The consortium is partnering with companies including Amazon.com, Inc., NTT Anode Energy Corporation and Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, on a regional promotion strategy and has already made concrete proposals under its exclusive public occupancy plan.

This is the first bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation project in the general-sea-area in Japan. As one of the largest power sources in Japan, this project will provide large contributions to make renewable energy a main power source, which is one of the key goals for Japan to realize carbon neutral society by 2050. The total installed capacity of the project's wind turbines
is expected to be 819MW, enough to meet the power demands of approximately 600,000 Japanese households. This project also contributes to the climate change mitigation initiatives of the consortium members and the partners, as detailed in the following.
The consortium will commence this project subsequent to its final investment decisions.
1. Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
2. Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities

Under the "Create the Next" vision, the consortium is endeavoring to achieve several key goals. The first is to effectively balance energy stability and decarbonization. The second is to collaborate and coexist with regional interests as a responsible corporate citizen that is rooted in the local community. The third is to contribute to help Japan realize carbon neutrality by 2050 through local production for local consumption of energy,
