Nissin Electric Co Ltd. announced October 16, 2014, that it has developed the first 250kW PV inverter that is for outdoor use and has a direct-current (DC) collection function, which is usually provided by a collecting box. The PV inverter will be released Nov. 1, 2014.

At a large-capacity solar power plant, electricity is transmitted from each string, which connects 11-19 solar panels in series, to connecting boxes. Then, from multiple connecting boxes, electricity is sent to a collecting box, and, then, to a PV inverter. Because the new PV inverter incorporates the function of a collecting box, it becomes possible to reduce costs of purchase, installation and maintenance of a collecting box.
