Westlake, Ohio - Nordson has donated the Nordson Depot structure and surrounding property, as well as $150,000 to the City of Amherst to use for renovating and maintaining the space on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30.

The 5.3-acre property is located on the northwest section of the company's Amherst campus and has been owned by Nordson since 1969. The 2,294 square foot building, located at 671 Franklin Avenue, can accommodate 80 guests and seat 60 comfortably. Nordson used the facility for a variety of company functions, and overtime it became a resource for the community, as well.

"Nordson has done a great job making the Nordson Depot available for nonprofits to meet," said Amherst Mayor Mark Costilow. "Nordson is a great partner with the community."

"We hope the community will be able to expand its use and beautify this area for the neighborhood, so generations to come will be able to enjoy this space named for the Nord family and their legacy," said Dave Titone, Vice President of the Nordson Industrial Coating Systems division based in Amherst.

The city has plans to develop a park on the surrounding property, which will be called "Nord Park." Nordson and the City of Amherst have a strong partnership, including philanthropy and outreach efforts by Nordson through educational programs and grants.

"It will be an easier opportunity for nonprofits to use the space," said Cecilia Render, Executive Director of the Nordson Corporation Foundation. "We are active supporters of programs in the schools and Main Street Amherst, so we have a lot of connections with the City of Amherst."

The Depot was built in 1905 by the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway, which later became part of the New York Central. The station served passenger trains until 1963. Evan Nord, one of the Company's founders and a train enthusiast, bought three railroad cars in 1971 to exhibit at the Depot until 2014 when the cars were donated to the Lake Shore Railway Association in Wellington, Ohio. In 1978, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
