ACHESON, Alberta (AP) _ North American Construction Group Ltd. (NOA) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $2.2 million.

The Acheson, Alberta-based company said it had net income of 7 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 26 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 31 cents per share.

The heavy construction and mining services company posted revenue of $114.1 million in the period, also falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $121.5 million.

North American Construction shares have risen 51% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $14.95, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
