HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) _ Planet Fitness Inc. (PLNT) on Thursday reported a third-quarter loss of $3.1 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Hampton, New Hampshire-based company said it had a loss of 4 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 2 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 11 cents per share.

The fitness center operator posted revenue of $105.4 million in the period, which also fell short of Street forecasts. Eight analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $107 million.

Planet Fitness shares have decreased 11% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $66.70, a rise of 11% in the last 12 months.
