PPL Electric Utilities has been closely monitoring the forecasts for yet another round of severe weather, which will impact our region later today.

Current models indicate the storm could cause damage to the electrical system, with rain and winds potentially gusting up to 50 mph. To address potential outages that may develop with the storm, the Company has hundreds of workers ready to respond. The storm is expected to make its way out of the region by Thursday evening.

'The high winds and additional rain, on a ground that is already saturated from recent snow, could bring down trees and limbs on our electric lines and equipment, causing power outages,' said Christine Martin, president of PPL Electric Utilities. 'We want customers to know that we have crews across our service territory ready to work around the clock to help get customers back online as safely and efficiently as we can.'

Even with the best preparation, storms and severe weather can cause damage and result in outages. PPL Electric has hundreds of personnel ready to respond to the storm, providing both field-based and back-office emergency response operations across our service territory. This includes lineworkers, foresters, damage assessors and call center staff. Crews will be staged across the service territory and ready to respond as soon as it is safe to do so.

As PPL Electric continues to prepare for the storm, customers are encouraged to do the same. The company offers the following tips and reminders:

Stay connected: Report power outages online at pplelectric.com or text 'Outage' to TXTPPL (898775).

Stay safe: If you encounter a downed wire at any time, assume it's energized and stay away. If you see one, report it immediately to PPL Electric.

Just in case you lose power, it's good to have an emergency kit on hand with food, water, medication and any pet supplies you may need.

We encourage customers who have medical conditions requiring electricity to make arrangements in case of an emergency.

Make sure to keep phones and other mobile devices charged.

Remember that candles can start fires. If you lose power, use flashlights instead.

If you use a generator to supply power during an outage, be sure to operate it outdoors.
