Aeroflot together with key industry players established Eurasian SAF-Alliance 13 December 2021

Moscow, 13 December 2021 - Aeroflot, Gazprom Neft, Airbus, Volga-Dnepr, State Scientific Research Institute of Civil Aviation, National Research Center named after N.Ye. Zhukovsky and S7 Group created Eurasian SAF alliance.

The main goal of the alliance is to introduce and expand production and use of environmentally friendly fuel in Russia. Alliance members plan to develop a roadmap and aim to coordinate joint efforts in the area. The parties agreed to promote usage of SAF in Russia in accordance with local and international regulations and requirements, as well as in line with aircraft specifications, including aircraft type certificate and other operational documentation. The alliance members have set an ambitious goal for the domestic aviation market - to perform the first flight on a biofuel blend no later than 2024.

Andrey Chikhanchin, PJSC Aeroflot's Deputy CEO for Commerce and Finance commented "The environmental agenda is among key development trends in aviation. Aeroflot Group has already made a significant contribution to improving environmental efficiency - over the past decade, we have reduced specific CO2 emissions by 30%. By signing the declaration on the establishment of the SAF alliance, Aeroflot is taking a step towards the future, reaffirming its commitment to environmental priorities of the industry".

The Eurasian SAF Alliance continues sustainability initiatives of its members and aims to contribute to the further improvement of the environmental friendliness of aviation transport and the gradual decarbonization of the aviation industry. The members of the alliance believe that joint actions of the leading Russian and European companies, jet fuel producers, passenger and cargo airlines, aircraft manufactures, as well as state and regulatory bodies will help to achieve alliance's goals.

The Eurasian SAF Alliance is an inclusive ecosystem open to participation by companies throughout the SAF chain, including fuel producers, airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers, engine manufacturers and research institutes.

For Aeroflot Group this alliance is another step on its long decarburization road that follows agreement on SAF signed with Gazprom Neft. The agreement became the first of its kind in Russia between an airline and an aviation fuel producer.
