Rosseti FGC UES commissions 134-km transit line to strengthen up links between Volgograd and Rostov power systems

11/09/2021

Reconstruction of the Volga-Zalivskaya 220 kV transmission line, which is involved in electricity supply to Volgograd and transit of power from the Rostov NPP, is complete. As part of the project, Rosseti FGC UES erected a new transit line next to the existing power grid and modernized the Zalivskaya 220 kV substation. In the future, the old line will be dismantled. The cost of work totals to 4,2 bn rubles.

Over 680 new-generation multi-sided steel supports were installed during the transmission line construction. Such structures are mechanically strong and highly resistant to wind and icing. Support elements are protected against corrosion by hot-dip galvanizing.

As the southern region is characterized by a long thunderstorm period (about eight months), modern protective devices - more than 1.7 thousand surge arresters - have been installed on the line.

In addition, the new transmission line is equipped with fiber-optic cable. The development of digital communication systems makes it possible to provide remote observability of power facilities. This will improve the promptness of responding to network abnormalities and correcting faults.

A new control room building was built at the Zalivskaya 220 kV substation, the switching equipment of the 220 kV switchyard was replaced, microprocessor-based relay protection systems were installed, and an ice melting system was installed on the outgoing power lines. The project improves the reliability of the power center, which is vital for the power supply of consumers in Volgograd and the region.
