The report specifically notes, "Quest easily outpaced all other vendors in the database development and optimization software segment," and that the company's position as market leader "is based on database development and SQL authoring and optimization tools of the Toad product line."

  • Titled, "Worldwide Database Development and Management Tools 2010 Vendor and Segment Analysis" (Doc # 232122), the IDC report provides a market size, vendor share, and market segment analysis for the worldwide database development and management tools (DDMT) market in 2010. • Quest ranked well in four market segments, and was named one of the top two vendors within the distributed and other system database development and management tools segment, behind database platform Oracle. • According to the report, worldwide revenue in 2010 for the database development and management tools market was $2.0 billion, representing growth of 1.8 percent. IDC predicts the development and optimization segment will likely see strong growth.

Carl Olofson, research vice president, IDC, Application Development and Deployment

"Quest is considered a major vendor in multiple database management and development market segments, but continues to be particularly aggressive in the development and optimization segment due largely to its popular Toad product line. Database tool providers are presented with new opportunity as the market continues to grow, based on a skill shortage caused by a growing number of diverse database technologies, and also the constant demand for applications that are built with efficiency and security in mind."

Claudia Fernandez, director of product management, Toad Solutions, Quest Software

"Quest's three-time ranking as the number one provider of database development software underscore's the strong force Toad has within the database community. For more than a decade, our customers have looked to Quest for tools that help users become more productive, and organizations get the most out of their database investments. As the market continues to grow, especially with the rise of Big Data technologies and the increasing demands put on today's database professional, users can continue to count on Quest and Toad to simplify their increasingly complex database environments."
