PEMBROKE, Bermuda (AP) _ RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. (RNR) on Monday reported a loss of $440.4 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Pembroke, Bermuda-based company said it had a loss of $9.75. Losses, adjusted for investment costs, came to $8.98 per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $7.75 per share.

The insurance company posted revenue of $1.54 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $1.59 billion.
