AMES, Iowa (AP) _ Renewable Energy Group Inc. (REGI) on Thursday reported third-quarter net income of $26.3 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Ames, Iowa-based company said it had net income of 60 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 68 cents per share.

The biodiesel producer posted revenue of $576.1 million in the period, which beat Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $547.4 million.

Renewable Energy Group shares have more than doubled since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $57.35, more than tripling in the last 12 months.
