IDGC of the South installed memorial plaque in memory of power engineers who fought in the World War II

On May 7, power engineers inaugurated memorial plaque at the building of Rostov branch of IDGC of the South in memory of power engineers who fought in the Great Patriotic War and homefront workers who maintained energy systems of Rostov region in war and postwar years. The memorial plaque bears the name: "The glory and the memory to power engineers of the Great Patriotic War". Igor Gennadievich Belov is sculptor and author of memorial.

The power industry in years of war was the basis of industrial and military might of USSR. In the years of war power engineers tried to meet the requirements of plants working for the needs of defense and repair the destroyed facilities. Under the conditions of immediate battle area, air raids and gunfire it was difficult to run the power plant. Power engineers of Rostov region provided uninterruptible electric power supply to military facilities, defense plants and municipal facilities of Rostov region.

In February of 1943 after complete liberation of Rostov, power engineers started to reactivate main generating facilities. All power plants, 110kV power lines and substations were destroyed but power engineers of Rostov demonstrated real heroism when rebuilding these facilities.

During reconstruction works in 1945 the total capacity of power plants reached prewar level. The feat of power engineers in the Great Patriotic War went down in history of USSR and became a basis of grid power system of country and region.

"We made everything by hand - took out the trash, reconstructed the destroyed substations. At that time only women worked at substations because all men power engineers went to the front - says Aleksandra Bobrovskaya, veteran of the Great Patriotic War and production department of "Central power grids". - We worked for 12 hours a day. I can't remember any accidents because everyone did their best to help army. And now IDGC of the South helps us: in the run up to May 9 we got financial help and presents. In the course of the year employees of IDGC of the South call to us and ask if we need something. I worked 45 years at the Company and I am proud of it!"

Pavel Goncharov, chief engineer of IDGC of the South noted: "Few people know that power engineers worked on the battlefields - they constructed barbed-wire obstacles and installed transformers. Veterans did this work to help army to achieve victory!"

Vyacheslav Timchenko, deputy Minister of Industry and Energy of Rostov region says: "Power engineers made a great contribution to the victory of our country in the Great Patriotic War. They reconstructed the damaged urban facilities. Present day power engineers are their worthy successors. Energy infrastructure of Rostov region is a stable system, any troubles are fixed immediately".

At the end of ceremonial event Members of Young Professionals Board of IDGC of the South congratulated veterans and presented them gifts and flowers.
