Salzgitter AG Group subsidiary Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH supplies green flat steel products with CO reduced by more than 66%2footprint of four German plants of Mercedes-Benz AG as early as 2021.

The CO2-low steel grades are produced in the Peine electric steel mill in combination with the rolling mills and galvanizing plants in Salzgitter. They meet with great interest from customers from various industries.

Mercedes-Benz AG is the first automobile manufacturer to be enacted by Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH with CO2-reduced steel as cold fine sheet and hot-dip galvanized sheet for series production. Among other things, this results in structural and body parts for various passenger car models.

For a large number of our customers, it is important to already have a physical-real and not only through more or less theoretical balance sheet considerations CO2-reduced product. Gunnar Groebler, CEO of Salzgitter AG: 'The expansion of our product portfolio to include green flat steel via the new CO2-poor production route is an important component of our decarbonization strategy, which we are already implementing today. In addition, we will continue to follow the path we have embarked on towards a CO2-poor steel production with SALCOS - SAlzgitter Low CO2-Consistentlypursue S teelmaking. This fundamental transformation enables us to completely replace conventional steel production in defined steps with hydrogen-based processes. In this way, we will have a CO in the target image2reduction of about 95% and thus avoid around 1% of today's German emissions.'

Salzgitter AG was the first European steel manufacturer to receive conformity statements in accordance with TUV SUD's VERIsteel procedure for its new green steel

products. The method enables the detection of product-specific CO2emissions from steel production and accompanies the process of decarbonization. The conformity statements confirm that when the production route is switched from the conventional blast furnace route to the electric steel route, DEPENDING ON the end product delivered, CO2savings of between 66% and 75%.
