SAN DIEGO (AP) _ Sempra Energy (SRE) on Thursday reported second-quarter profit of $571 million.

The San Diego-based company said it had net income of $1.77 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.98 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.82 per share.

The natural gas and electricity provider posted revenue of $3.55 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.01 billion.

Sempra expects full-year earnings in the range of $8.10 to $8.70 per share.
