Recently, the International Bridge Conference (IBC) announced the list of winners of the 2023 Bridge Awards. The Peljesac Bridge in Croatia built by ZMPC was awarded the Gustav Lindenthal Medal at the 40th International Bridge Conference. This is the first time that a bridge project built by a Chinese company overseas has won a top international award.

The Peljesac Bridge in Croatia is a six-tower single-plane cable-stayed bridge in southern Croatia. The bridge spans over the Adriatic Sea and connects the Croatian territory across the sea, with a total length of 2,440 m. ZMPC is responsible for the manufacturing and installation of a 1,220m steel cable girder.

The project adopts European standard EN1090-2 and EXC4 construction grade, difficult to manufacture, and has high-quality requirements. It is the first major engineering project, whose bid across the world was won by the Chinese side, implemented in the EU, funded by the EU, and constructed by the Chinese side under the EU standard. It is the largest transportation infrastructure construction project implemented by Chinese enterprises since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Croatia. It is also a key livelihood project of Croatia since its founding and is regarded as a model of trilateral cooperation between China, Croatia, and the EU. The completion of the bridge has realized the long-cherished wish of the Croatian people to connect the North and South.

International Bridge Conference (IBC) is an international bridge academic conference with a high reputation hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Engineers Association, which has a high influence in the world bridge field. Established in 1988, the annual awards, known as the Nobel Prize in the bridge sector, include the George S. Richardson Medal, Gustav Lindenthal Medal, Arthur G. Hayden Medal, Abba G. Lichtenstein Medal, Eugene C. Figg Jr. Medal, Theodore Cooper Medal, and Mega Bridge Projects Award. Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Rail-cum-Road Bridge partly built by ZMPC was awarded the 2021 George S. Richardson Medal.

The Gustav Lindenthal Medal is awarded to the bridge project that demonstrates outstanding achievements in appropriate, technical and material innovation, aesthetic merit, harmony with the environment, or successful community participation. The prize is awarded to only one bridge project in the world each year.
