Battersea Power Station was delighted to host YB Nga Kor Ming, the Minister of Local Government Development for Malaysia, for a tour of the exciting new riverside neighbourhood in Central London on Tuesday 3rd October 2023.

The Minister of Local Government Development met with Tan Sri Jagan Sabapathy, Chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company Ltd, to learn about the transformation of the 42-acre brownfield site into a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood that is centred around the newly restored and repurposed Grade II* listed Power Station. The visionary regeneration project has been led by a consortium of companies comprising Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Sime Darby Property, S P Setia and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

The Battersea Power Station masterplan is delivering over 4,000 new homes, 3.5 million sq ft of mixed commercial space and 19 acres of public realm, positioned in and around the Power Station. Battersea Power Station is also creating 20,000 new jobs as part of this new London destination and urban quarter, significantly boosting the local economy.

YB Nga Kor Ming visited the historic Power Station, which opened to the public in October 2022 as a place to shop, dine, live work and play, and experienced Lift 109, Battersea Power Station's unique glass elevator experience, which transports visitors 109m to the top of the building's north west chimney, offering 360-degree views of the London skyline.

YB Nga Kor Ming was also briefed on New Mansion Square, Battersea Power Station's affordable housing scheme delivered in partnership with Peabody, discovering the high-quality homes, public realm and shared amenities which both residents and the local community will benefit from.

The delegation comprised KPKT officials and senior management of its housing agency PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA).

YB Nga Kor Ming, the Minister of Local Government Development for Malaysia, said:

"KPKT has recently launched the urban renewal guidelines as a prelude to drafting the Urban Renewal Act next year. Our visit to Battersea Power Station gave an invaluable insight into urban regeneration, community development and conservation initiatives.

The knowledge we gained from this visit will contribute to a stronger policy and better implementation of urban renewal, rejuvenation, regeneration and conservation efforts".

Tan Sri Jagan Sabapathy, Chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company, said: "On behalf of all the shareholders, it was a great honour to welcome YB Nga Kor Ming to Battersea Power Station to demonstrate how this once derelict London landmark and surrounding area has been transformed into a new riverside neighbourhood through a visionary masterplan, powered by Malaysian investment. Battersea Power Station has become a mixed-use destination for all to enjoy, with over 2,500 residents, 5,500 workers and tens of thousands of people now visiting every week.

As part of our presentation, we were proud to brief YB Nga on our newly delivered 386 affordable homes, of which 98% enjoy dual-aspect orientation and have shared access to communal landscaped gardens. There is also a new on-site NHS clinic and affordable workspaces to support local start-ups and entrepreneurs. This is in addition to the delivery of the Northern Line Extension and new Zone 1 Battersea Power Station Underground station, which connects Battersea to the rest of Central London. Combined with our rich mix of retail, leisure, green space and offices, we are proud to have created a sustainable community for the enjoyment of all."

Battersea Power Station has been transformed by its shareholders which have come together to form the Battersea Project Holding Company, comprising Sime Darby Property, S P Setia and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). In 2019, leading fund management companies Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and EPF became the long-term commercial asset holders securing the future of the landmark for many generations to come.
