Breast cancer is the subject of a talk given at the Quality of Life Program

The 2021 Quality of Life Program continued on October 21, with the talk entitled "Early diagnosis awareness and breast health care", led by Beatriz Moser, breast cancer survivor, technical volunteer at Instituto da Mama do Rio Grande do Sul (Imama) and oncology nutritionist. The talk was made possible through a partnership between SLC Agrícola and Tama, a company that provides packaging for cotton bales, through the Cotton for Life Campaign.

During the online talk, around 200 managers and collaborators of the Head office and Farms received information about breast cancer and tips on how to perform breast self-exams. According to Beatriz, if detected at an early stage, the disease has a 95% chance of being cured. She noted that 54% of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage and that many regular breast tumors diagnoses were not made because of the pandemic. She added that the estimate in Brazil is of over 66 thousand cases per year and that, in the country, the rate is 62 cases per 100 thousand people; in Rio Grande do Sul, the rate of cases is 69 per 100 thousand people and, in Porto Alegre, 82 cases per 100 thousand people. After the talk, she answered questions from the participants.

The People Management and Corporate Communication Manager, Déa Machado, congratulated Beatriz on her talk, thanked everyone for participating and highlighted the importance of the theme. "Every year, we try to carry out actions for Pink October, as a way of raising awareness among all our collaborators about breast cancer and the need for periodic exams", she said.
