SPIE installed the first charging station in its Metropolis network in Rueil Malmaison

Cergy, 15 December 2020 - SPIE CityNetworks, French subsidiary of the SPIE Group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, dedicated to urban and regional planning, energy and digital networks and transport and mobility infrastructures, has installed the first charging station in the Metropolis Network in Rueil-Malmaison. This installation, consisting of 6 charging points for electric vehicles, is part of the Autolib' stations reuse project including equipment adapted to the new electric vehicles and conducted by the Métropole du Grand Paris. The aim of this project is to provide Île-de-France residents with a reliable network of charging points by 2022, to foster the development of more environmentally-friendly mobility.

'Metropolis': for more environmentally-friendly mobility in Île-de-France

'Metropolis' is the new charging service for electric vehicles in the Métropole du Grand Paris (outside of Paris). As part of this project, SPIE CityNetworks is responsible for installing, maintaining and operating more than 5,000 charging points, of which more than 250 are to be designated for express recharging. This project will enable the Autolib' stations to be reused and allow new charging stations to be created by providing a service adapted for current usage.

SIIT (Société pour l'Investissement dans les Infrastructures des Territoires), E-Totem and SPIE CityNetworks, major players in charging infrastructures for electric vehicles, has developed an initiative to achieve the region's ambitions in terms of electric mobility, adapted specifically to meet the needs of each municipality in metropolitan France. The Metropolis offer is designed to meet all the current and future expectations and uses of electric vehicle drivers.

Metropolis finances the investment. The municipalities determine, in connection with Metropolis, the location of the stations and the selection of recharging infrastructures within the framework of an agreement on the use of public space. In return, they receive licence fees for installing and operating the service.

The service offers a choice between three different charging capacities, to adapt to different uses:

• Metropolis Proximity : 3 à 7 kW
• Metropolis Citadine: 7 to 22 kW
• Metropolis Express: 50 to 150 kW

SPIE CityNetworks provides its experience gained from operating more than 3,000 charging stations. The French subsidiary of SPIE and its partners offer a seamless user experience and a service accessible to all: simplified pricing, dedicated mobile app, access to the service with or without a subscription, contactless card payments for recharging and customer service teams based in France, available 24/7, and interoperability.

The Metropolis charging service is geared towards individuals and professionals, those using electric vehicles, as well as other electric mobility solutions (electric bikes and scooters), and helps to support the region's energy transition and improve the quality of public spaces.

A successful first step in Rueil-Malmaison

The first 'Metropolis' charging station has been installed on 2 avenue Albert 1er in Rueil-Malmaison. Locals can test the 6 charging stations for free up until the end of December 2020.

Eight additional stations are already being rolled out and at the end of these initial roll outs, there will be a network of 19 stations throughout the municipality.
