BANNOCKBURN, Ill. (AP) _ Stericycle Inc. (SRCL) on Friday reported second-quarter net income of $29.3 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Bannockburn, Illinois-based company said it had net income of 32 cents. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs and non-recurring costs, were 67 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 68 cents per share.

The medical waste management company posted revenue of $672.7 million in the period, topping Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $665.8 million.

Stericycle shares have risen nearly 2% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has increased 18%. The stock has risen 11% in the last 12 months.
