Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. is proud to announce that the Company has been designated as an organization that participates in the FY2017 feasibility study project for overseas development of quality energy infrastructure businesses launched by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry. In this project, Sumitomo Electric will promote its feasibility study for expanded construction of wastewater reclamation plants in East Asian Countries and regions.
The objective of this project is to study the feasibility of overseas infrastructure projects by utilizing the technologies and know-how of Japanese companies, with particular focus on addressing the demands for water, railway, electric power and plant infrastructures that are expected to increase mainly in developing countries.
Aiming to overcome water shortage in part of East Asia, which is a chronic issue in this region, Sumitomo Electric will inquire into the feasibility of installation of wastewater treatment systems that use POREFLON™, a water treatment membrane module having a superior energy-saving performance, as well as the management of reclaimed water supply systems.
Sumitomo Electric will continue to promote its water treatment business using POREFLON™ membrane modules and other unique devices, thereby contributing to solving various problems associated with water environment and energy.
Features of POREFLON™ membrane modules
Due to its high degree of flexibility, Sumitomo Electric's PTFE hollow fiber membrane sways easily. The flexibility of the membrane and the intrinsic properties of the material combine to make the membrane fouling resistance.
POREFLON™, hollow fiber membrane made of a single material, is 8 to 10 times stronger than any other hollow fiber membranes made of other materials.
Using a membrane module made by bundling a few hundred to a few thousand straw-shaped hollow fiber membranes as the key component, the POREFLON™ membrane wastewater treatment system consists of a package comprising a membrane tank, pumps, an aeration blower, and a control panel. Due to the membrane module design that achieves efficient aeration by densely and properly arraying hollow fiber membranes, the amount of necessary equipment and devices is minimized, resulting in energy-saving system operation.
